FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are Aquaflush ostomy obturators?

The Aquaflush ostomy insert is a thin, flexible silicone device designed to prevent stoma stenosis (closure of the stoma between catheterizations) and stoma leaks by forming a snug seal between catheter insertions.

Why use the Aquaflush ostomy insert ?

The ostomy insert is a useful device for patients using antegrade continence enemas (ACE) where they are required to seal the tract or keep an ACE stoma open between enema catheter insertions (usually every 24 to 48 hours).

Individuals who have undergone the Mitrofanoff procedure may also benefit from the use of the Aquaflush stoma plug between catheterizations.

Our ostomy insert can also be used for any other stoma, of similar size, in another part of the body.

How do I adjust the length of the Aquaflush ostomy insert ?

Each insert has a series of preformed cutting points that the user can shorten to the chosen length, ideally with sterile scissors.

Each user should seek advice from their healthcare professional on the specific plug length for each individual and the best way to perform this procedure.

How do I use the Aquaflush ostomy insert ?

The stoma area should be carefully cleaned and dried before inserting the insert.
The insert Aquaflush should be cut to the required length and, if necessary, lubricated with a water-based lubricant to facilitate insertion.
The insert is then gently inserted into the tract in the same way as when performing an ACE or Mitrofanoff catheterization.

How do I keep the insert ostomy in place?

Users can use the Aquaflush Stoma Stopper dressing, once the insert is fully inserted, to secure it for up to 24 hours.

The insert can be used for up to 30 days; however, the dressings are for single use only.

How do I remove the Aquaflush ostomy insert ?

Initially, the dressing on the insert is carefully removed and then the insert is gently pulled out when it is time to perform an ACE washout or Mitrofanoff catheterization.
  • To remove it, lift the small silicone tab on the top of the insert to make it easier to grip and carefully remove it.
  • Clean the cap as directed by your healthcare professional.

Routine maintenance of the Aquaflush ostomy insert .

The insert ostomy can be used for up to 30 days before being replaced, and only the patient for whom they were indicated can reuse them.
The obturators should be cleaned with soap and water after each insertion and allowed to dry before being stored in a clean, dry place.
If there are any signs of damage to the stop, particularly at the joint between the beveled stop disc and the stop shaft, do not use it and replace it with a new insert .
